Six Ways to Make the Most of an SVC Conference

Tip #1:  Surprise yourself.

At this conference, we invite you to experiment. If you usually speak up in a group, listen more. If you usually hold back, speak up more. If you usually lead with your head, try leading with your heart. And vice versa. Use the conference as an opportunity to extend yourself in new ways.

Tip #2:  Be intentional. Be authentic. Be yourself.

We encourage you to take some time to reflect on why you came here and what you hope to get out of your conference experience. Set intentions: they can be what you hope to achieve at this conference, or in your life, or in your work, or all of the above. We also encourage you to share your intentions and your authentic self with other attendees.

Tip #3:  Relationships first. Business second.

We encourage SVC members to do business with each other. Supporting each other professionally is part of what this community is all about. Because SVC is about building real relationships, we ask that all attendees to make a genuine effort to get to know one another first,. Often those relationships lead to business, but it’s important to find common ground before conducting business.

Tip #4:  Take care of yourself.

If you’re going to do good work, or care for a community or the planet, you’ve got to care for yourself, too. At this conference, please remember be good to yourself. And, if you see someone here who could use a little care, reach out by sharing a kind word or offering your support.

Tip #5:  It’s all about giving, and receiving.

SVC is a community of support and service. The people that gain the most from being a part of this community and conference are those who are the most generous with their time, resources, and connections. Be of service first. What flows from that is always amazing. After the conference, please remember to follow-up with the connections you offered to help.

Tip #6:  Enjoy yourself. Go with the flow.

There is no right or wrong way to attend an SVC conference. And, there is no one here that you need to impress. Just relax, be yourself, be present, and be open to what unfolds. Nothing is perfect in a room full of real people at a live event. Some things will fit your expectations, some will not. That’s the point. Go with the flow and be ready to embrace the experience. This year’s conference is being held in a beautiful setting, so we encourage you to get out and explore the surroundings or take part in morning yoga, hikes, or pool and spa services. Enjoy yourself and the amazing people around you. Simply put, please have fun!

INTEGRITY

We act with integrity and honor our commitments.

VALUES

We integrate our values into our daily work.

RESPECT

We treat everyone with respect.

INCLUSION

We work together to create an inclusive, welcoming community.

SVC and its members actively promote an environment that is safe, positive, welcoming, and open for all staff, members, and guests. We are each responsible for creating this environment at SVC gatherings and events.

As a conscious community, we must be aware of our actions and their impact on others. We cannot blur the lines of a caring, connecting community with one that feels predatory, no matter how good the intentions. Sexual, racial, or any other type of harassment will not be tolerated, and we ask each community member to act accordingly and speak up if a situation feels or looks inappropriate.

SVC takes all reports of harassment very seriously and is committed to a fair and open way of dealing with every situation.

Our goal is to assure that we have a respectful and caring community.

SVC has adopted a formal Anti-Harassment policy. A copy of the Policy is available at the registration table. If you are the victim of harassment or a witness to an incident of harassment, please report it to an SVC staff member or board member as soon as possible.

We thank everyone for their cooperation in keeping SVC a safe place for people to gather, share, reflect, and collaborate.

SVC is committed to hosting an event that is as close to zero waste as possible and will be working with Inward Point in 2019 to achieve our sustainability goals. We will share more specific details as the event comes together regarding this commitment and aim to be as transparent as possible in this process to create an event that reflects the values our members and attendees hold.
