Organized as a Benefit Corporation and certified as a BCorp, SunCommon has earned $170M in revenues on $4M of outside capital during its 7 years. Duane raised drives its dynamic culture.
He’s a social entrepreneur with an eclectic 35-year career in socially responsible business, emergency services (yes, LAPD), campaign management and government service. Duane moved his family from California in 1996 to Vermont where he worked as Chief of Stuff at Ben & Jerry’s for 12 years — getting to execute Ben Cohen’s creative vision. Advancing values-led business models — he’s a member of Social Venture Circle and serves on the Boards of Vermont Businesses for Social Business and Vermont Public Interest Research Group.
Duane lives in a zero energy home in the Vermont mountains with his wife of 29 years (Laura Peterson who heads PR for North America at Ben & Jerry’s), missing their out-of-the-house sons. Each year, Duane manages a camp at Burning Man that delights many SVC members.
