Gifford Pinchot

President | Pinchot & Company

Gifford Pinchot was present at SVN’s first meeting and has mostly been a member ever since. He was an early board member. With his wife Libba, he was a co-founder of the Bainbridge Graduate Institute, the first fully triple bottom line school of business, now part of Presidio Graduate School. He was the first, third and fifth president of the school, demonstrating a remarkable lack of skill in succession planning.

Gifford was the CEO of a Berkeley based internet security company, whose sale in 1998 helped to fund the graduate school.
Gifford, with his wife Libba, coined the word “intrapreneur” and wrote the bestselling book that launched the intrapreneurship movement. The book was published in 15 languages. Together Gifford and Libba have helped clients launch over 800 new products and new business. Today their focus in consulting is on mitigating climate change and increasing societal equity and resilience by releasing the talent and purposes of employees. They coach, train, speak, and help transform the culture and visions of companies.

Mr. Pinchot has received numerous awards in his lifetime, among them, being listed by Executive Excellence, with considerable hyperbole, as one of the world’s top 20 leadership thinkers. In 2009 he was awarded the Olympus Lifetime Education Award and in 2010 he and his wife were both named Purpose Prize fellows. In 2011 Gifford and Libba, along with Joel Solomon and Ed Dugger, were given the inaugural SVN Service Awards. Learn more: www.intrapreneur.com
